San Anselmo

Welcome to San Anselmo

A quaint and historic town with a charming atmosphere and a laid-back vibe

San Anselmo is a quaint and comfortable town roughly 20 miles north of San Francisco. If you're looking to escape the bustle of the big city, then this is a town to explore and potentially call home. The beautiful landscape of Spanish-inspired architecture against the backdrop of beautiful hillsides is a perfect scene for families and individuals looking for a charming and inviting atmosphere to call home.

Unlike other major bustling cities throughout California, San Anselmo is the perfect place to unwind and thrive. Locals would describe the area as laid-back and a nice change of pace from other areas throughout the state.

San Anselmo is known for its easy-to-access shops, restaurants, and mom-and-pop shops. You can grab an evening bite at the popular Creekside Pizza or stop into Coffee Roastery for a nice brew during your morning commute. You'll find plenty of shops with a welcoming and homey feel, including M.H. Bread and Butter and Comforts Cafe.

Although this is a quaint town, there is still plenty to do. Throughout the year, you will find countless activities giving you a reason to get out and enjoy the area with your local neighbors. Notable events include concerts in Downtown San Anselmo that echo music throughout the streets. The Art and Wine Festival is a wonderful annual celebration for those looking to have a taste of some of the best beverages the state has to offer. If you're looking for a place to experience on a more regular basis, then Memorial Park and Robson—Harrington Park are great destinations to enjoy a lazy afternoon stroll.

One of the beautiful aspects of the town is the stunning architecture dotted throughout. San Anselmo is Spanish for “Saint Anselm” and the Spanish influence can really be felt throughout the area. Although the area was once pastoral, as development slowly began to grow in the area in the late 1800s, so too did the town. The North Pacific Coast Railroad, which has a spur track from San Anselmo to San Rafael, played a major role in energizing the area. Despite its past development, you still get a sense of nature through the beautiful greenery and stunning hill range of Ross Valley.

San Anselmo is a wonderful destination for those looking for a slower pace of life. Beautiful architecture, calming nature, and quaint shops throughout the downtown are all elements that make up this charming area. Year-round residents look forward to some of the best weather as the average high temperature hovers around 85 degrees.

San Anselmo is served by the Ross Valley School District along with several private schools including San Domenico school and Catholic St. Anselm school.
