Sausalito

Welcome to Sausalito

A lively and hip neighborhood with plenty of options for music and food lovers

Sausalito is celebrated as one of the Bay Area’s most colorful communities. Full of sailboats and live music, it is seen by many as a quaint seaside town. Its booming promenade is home to various restaurants, galleries, and boutiques, contributing an artistic element to the scene. The area was once inhabited by the Coast Miwok, and their shell mounds and artifacts are still present in Sausalito’s landscape today. Upon arriving in the area, Spanish settlers took note of the surrounding Willow Trees and dubbed the town “Saucito,” or “little willow.” The name has since evolved into Sausalito, and the once tranquil space is now considered to be one of California’s most lively and hip cities.

Bridgeway Promenade functions as Sausalito’s dining and shopping hub. Residents and visitors alike love it for its many quaint storefronts as well as beautiful views of the water. Bar Bocce has a laid-back feel and a nice waterfront view. Lappert's Ice Cream is a popular destination and puts a fun twist on traditional flavors. Near the promenade, you will find Fish, a sustainable seafood and fish market.

The Promenade also offers a lot in the way of shopping. Wine aficionados will love Bacchus and Venus bar and shop. Stop by Hubba Hubba for trendy women’s clothes, Paul and Shark for luxury outdoor men’s wear, and Cha Cha Cha for unique and fun children’s garb.

There are many great activities for couples and families living in Sausalito. The Discovery Museum has special exhibitions exploring creativity and imagination for children between six-months and ten-years-old. Cavallo Point has luxurious lodging, farm-fresh dining experiences, and a full schedule of activities, classes, and discussions. The Ice House Museum and Information Center preserve the area’s history through its exhibits and programming.

Every year, California residents gather in Sausalito for the Sausalito Art Festival, where visitors can view work by hundreds of award-winning artists, listen to acclaimed music, and taste fine wine and gourmet food. From July to September, couples and families head to Gabrielson Park for Jazz and Blues by the Bay. On the first Wednesday of every month, folks can enjoy Wednesday Night Live and observe music and art by various local artists.

Sausalito’s pretty waterfront views, artistic vibes, and lively shops always make for a good time. Families and visitors flock to the area for a reason — there is so much to love in this happening city.
